Bull Terriers Puppies - History of the Breed

Bull Terriers originated from a family called "bull and terrier" in the 19th century. Contrary to the common belief, Bull Terriers were not bred for fighting. These dogs were developed for companionship and conformation. However, due to the fact that at the time of the breed development the sport of dog fighting was extremely popular, the dogs became involved in it. Nevertheless, the purpose of responsible breeders was to create a perfect companion for any family.

The Bull Terrier of the present day is believed to have developed from the now extinct English White Terrier, the Bulldog, the Dalmatian and several terrier crosses. There is an opinion that the Collie and the Borzoi were used in order to elongate the head of Bull Terriers.

James Hinks is one of the Bull Terrier breeders. He is known to have bred a strain of all white bull terrier dogs. The man responsible for the development of colored bull terriers is Ted Lyon. At present, there is no such dog as the pure white Bull Terrier. All Bull Terriers are colored.

There were several Bull Terriers that contributed to the fame and the general popularity of the breed. They can be called heroes, as they saved the lives of people during wars. Some of these dogs' names are Camp, Sir Walter's dog, Willie, General Patton's dog and other dogs. These Bull Terriers and their owners deserve the public's attention and will live in the memory of people.
